God in his Infinite Wisdom: meets us where we are

In my college studies “the comparative studies of the worlds religions”  I took classes on early Christianity

modern Christianity

old testament

new testament

as well as others on both christian denominations and other world religions.

What I always found amazing was invariably there was someone in the class who could only see one point of view and would not even entertain the thought that there were other ways to worship the one true God and that their religion was THE religion

without naming denominations I’ve come across people from multiple religions that hold that belief ….they say and firmly believe in their hearts that

You are only saved if you believe exactly how I believe and if you don’t you will go to ….

That is not what I believe let me share you with you what I believe and …why.

I believe that God created the universe

I believe God is omnipotent and infinite

I believe God meets us where we are in life both literally and figuratively

I believe that the Bible, divinely inspired and transposed by man is the word of God.

I believe that the Bible is composed of different types of writing….we find letters….parables….stories…verbal illustrations….poetry….prophecy….

are you with me so far

Good lets look back to that first one

I believe that God created the universe

if you believe that God created the universe(and I do believe God created the universe) you are saying you believe God is capable of great things, far greater than any human could possibly imagine being able to do.

If God is capable of great things(and I believe he is) and if God is omnipotent/all knowing (again I believe he is)

then God in his infinite wisdom and all-knowing power is indeed capable  of meeting us where we are.

Look people have been debating the authenticity of various denominations for years but what if instead of calling them on the carpet for not being what we are

we are instead grateful that they are bringing the gospel message to their congregations

There are some people who have had such a horrible experience in one denomination that they will never set foot in that variety of church again but maybe one day they happen across another denomination where they feel welcome, where they feel a true reverence to God, or the worship feels more real to them…Who’s to say that’s not  God’s way of meeting that person where they are?

If God came to Abraham in a burning bush,

If God commanded Noah to build an ark

If God came to various people in dreams

If God sent angels to Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and magi

If God …etc…

Is he not all powerful and capable of meeting us where we are?

Who could you be the voice of God to?

I leave you with this final thought

If you believe the trinity(and I do)then christ is God and whether or not you are catholic I think the following prayer by st teresa of avila will touch your heart and perhaps move you to be christ to one another.

Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)

Christ Has No Body

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
