Curriculum Advise, scope and sequence

I have used various curriculum over the years and invariable find myself needing to supplement.

Regardless of curriculum I am including here the scope and sequence of what I believe should be covered in a basic 1st grade religious education curriculum.

God is Love

God as Creator

God Our Father

Jesus God’s Son

Mary Mother of God  (and a second lesson Mary and Jonah, two who said yes)

The Holy Family

Baptism

The Church Year

Advent(the advent lessons often cover several weeks and this is a good time to do some small projects advent or christmas related with your children)

Christmas

The other sacraments(Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick)

Lent, another time of several weeks of lessons(One day is almost fully encompassed by the book Benjamins Box

and the Resurrection Eggs)

Product Details

I use both together passing one egg to each child then as we read the story I have them hold up the object in the egg that goes along with the story.

Easter(leading up to Easter we get more deeply into Crucifixion, Resurrection, Ascension)

Pentecost

As I’ve stated in other posts

each week includes prayer,

each week includes at least one bible story if time allows I do two stories one from the old testament and one from the new testament.

The above scope/sequence can be followed through multiple grades elaborating on information and discussion as the children age.

look for more in depth topic specific lessons in the weeks to come.
